At the moment there are myriad styles and colours to choose from when buying a new sofa. As well as a huge choice of fabrics.
Different households have different requirements – do you have children or pets? Pets can claw sofas while children can leave stains. If you have either pets or children you’ll need to choose a fabric that is easy to clean while darker colours may help to hide stains.
If you have a large family it’s likely your sofa will be getting a lot of use. Choose carefully when choosing a fabric as some will wear more than others – such as raised patterns – and will therefore look older before their time. Popular sofa fabrics are nylon, cotton, polyester and microfibre. They are all pretty resistant and can be cleaned but try to avoid staining.
Then there is leather which is always unswervingly popular as a choice of fabric for a sofa. It’s always in style and can be easy to clean – although to keep it looking good you will have to treat it.
Then there is the style of your sofa. You can opt for a modern style – clean lines and streamlined. Or a more traditional piece that oozes sophistication. Loveseats and foot stools can also be used in conjunction.
Neutral coloured sofas are always going to be popular because they can fit in amongst most colour schemes. They can be combined with brightly coloured coffee tables or cushions to get some colour in the room. But now, with so many colours of sofa on the market, in so many modern styles, people are opting for bold furniture and making a statement with their sofa. Reds, blues, pinks and oranges are all proving popular. Similarly, patterned fabrics are proving popular. Graphic prints, bright colours and unusual shapes are all making statements although you will need to consider the colour scheme of your living room.
