Famous Black Diamonds

There are not many black stones in the world of famous diamonds, mainly the Black Orlov and the Amsterdam Diamond, which weigh 67 and 33 carats respectively, and several diamonds in the Crown Jewels of Iran, among them the Taj-I-Mah Diamond. The Great Mogul, a 279-carat diamond, is another famous Mogul cut diamond, but its whereabouts are unknown. The more modern rose cut is a variation on the old Mogul cut. A 205-carat black diamond called the ‘Black Star of Africa’ is rumored to exist, being sold to a buyer in Asia during the 1980′s, but this has never been substantiated.

The Spirit of de Grisogono was mined several decades ago in west Central Africa before being imported into Switzerland. It was then cut using the Mogul diamond cutting technique. This historic cutting method was developed centuries ago in India and can be seen in a number of historic diamonds.
After the cutting was completed, De Grisogono then set the 312.24 carats diamond into a ring made of white gold. The Spirit of de Grisogono Diamond is surrounded by 702 white diamonds weighing 36.69 carats.

The Spirit of de Grisogono Diamond ring was sold to a private client by Fawaz Gruosi, the icon jeweler and famous diamond cutter who leads the de Grisogono House of jewellery, for an undisclosed amount.

Black diamonds are very rare stones, found usually in the Central African Republic and Brazil. Carbonado is their original name. Carbonado diamonds seem to be one of the more mysterious types of diamonds. The most common theory is that they are produced by direct conversion of carbon with high pressure deep under ground over time. There are more elaborate theories as to their creation, such as shock metamorphism as meteorites hit the earth, to an origin from outer space.

Breaking In Your Walking Boots

Spaghetti Bolognese

I have no scientific basis for my assertion but I reckon that the majority of families in the UK have a spaghetti bolognese (or spag bol as it is fondly known) at least a couple of times a month. If you are in a rush then simply brown your mince and add a jar of shop bought ragu sauce. If you are looking for something more sophisticated then think along the lines of chopped bacon or pancetta, sun dried tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, red wine and fresh basil leaves. If you have kids who hate vegetables then spag bol is an excellent way of sneaking some of their five a day into their diet without them objecting. Tomatoes, one of the key ingredients in a spag bol, are one of the so-called super-foods which are full of anti-oxidants and the good news is that it doesn’t matter whether they are fresh, tinned or in a tomato puree.
